About The Five Owls | Holly Ramsey

Holly Ramsey

August 11, 1949 - September 6, 1993

The Five Owls was founded in 1986 by Holly Ramsey.  Holly had a lifelong love of children and children's books.

For seven years until her death in 1993, Holly was
The Five Owls' publisher and graphic designer.

She studied children's literature under Dr. Norine Odland at the University of Minnesota, and was an active supporter of the university's Kerlan Collection of Children's Literature.

She was a very bright, brave, and creative person--
the magazine itself is proof of that.

You see, Holly started The Five Owls in the first place as a way of resolving the loss of her career as a publication designer after she found out
she had multiple sclerosis in 1979.
