The Five Owls is a professional online journal that helps librarians, teachers and other professionals select the best new children's books published.  Our blue-ribbon committees of librarians evaluate more than 3,000 books each year, but select only 60-80 titles worthy to be designated "Starred Books of Merit": those that are judged "intelligent, beautiful, well-made and worthwhile in relation to books and literature in general."

In every issue you'll enjoy a lively mix of thematic booklists and essays on subjects of broad
interest, as well as interviews and articles about the fascinating people and happenings in the
world of children's books.

Our attractive magazine appeals to the interests and professional development needs of librarians, media specialists, reading teachers, booksellers, parents and others devoted to children's literacy.  The Five Owls offers:

The Five Owls brings busy librarians and teachers a quick yet deep read on themes in children's literature. Thematic bibliographies highlight some of the best children's books in print today.

Starred "Books of Merit" are selected from the thousands of books published each year and thoughtfully reviewed . The Five Owls is a fun and easy way to keep abreast of the best.
