Editorial Highlights Volume 18 Issue 1 The Great Plains
Coming to terms with the land on the American Great
Plains has long been a central feature of Midwestern
regional fiction. This issue features children's
books that shed light on the experience of growing up on
the prairie with its particular challenges. Issue 2
Food is used in children's literature to represent many
different things: comfort, love and power, to name a
few. This issue is dedicated to examining the
numerous references to food in children's literature and
their meanings. Issue 3
Not only are there children's books about music and
dance, but many illustrators seem to create music and
movement on the page. In this issue we will look
at many books about music and musicians,
dance, and books where music flows through the pages. Issue 4 Everyone knows that most children like funny books, but
what makes a funny book funny? The contributors to this
issue address this question by looking at children's books
that use parody and satire to amuse children.
